Greetings Zemmer Families!
March is Reading Month! Each year at this time, we take extra time and care to promote reading with our students and staff alike. We take reading seriously at Zemmer, and devote time to reading each day not only in English class, but in our IConnect program as well. Of course, we know that reading in school simply isn’t enough. Like most things in life, becoming a better reader requires lots of practice. Please work with your children to ensure that time gets set aside for reading for pleasure, just as it needs to get set aside for homework each day.
For us as adults, there are a couple of simple and important steps that we can take. First, engage your children in conversation about their reading. You don’t have to be familiar with the book – just genuinely interested in your child’s take on it. Even more importantly, treat yourself to a book – especially if you haven’t done so in a while. Actions speak much louder than words, and children tend to read more when they see family members reading more.
As always, thank you for your support. Enjoy your books and the time with your families!
